The process from application to treatment usually involves the same steps: a gynecological examination, collection of the required medical documentation, submission of an application to the relevant health insurance fund, assessment by a specialist medical committee, and—once approval has been granted—referral to a contracted clinic.

The main differences between the entities—and between individual cantons within the Federation—concern the specific eligibility requirements, the number of funded treatment cycles, and the application procedure. These regulations may also change from time to time.
